Millions of tax dollars lost to illegal gaming runners
Online gambling is depriving the Malaysian government of give casino bonuses millions in tax revenue according to a report published in The NewStraits Times.
The newspaper quoted an industry source who pointed out that illegal gaming generates almost identical revenue — 2.9 million US dollars — to that achieved by legal online casinos operators.
Although arrests have been made, they have yet to detain any of the “main players”, while the 6 legal operators pay two monthly taxes totalling 14 percent, the report said.
